Fellow type nerds and slab serif fans: what are your favorite parings with Clarendon?

I enjoy Knockout with Clarendon; how about you?

A Geometric sans serif that is a bit less precise than either Futura or Avenir would work nicely. You could try either Metro take a look here http://www.linotype.com/2410/metroseries.html

or try Nobel http://www.dutchtypelibrary.nl/Nobel_rdrct.html

The Meta family works nicely too.

Take a look at the degree of openness in a/c/s and similar shapes, how low the curve starts on n/m/h ..., and how closed up the bowl is where it touches the stem in b/d/p/q ... Also consider the massive x-height and the extreme thinning of the joints. The sans eqivalent of these traits are not geometrics or humanists, but rather grotesques. Contemporary options include: Knockout, Maple, National, FF Bau, Supria Sans, Nitti (monospaced, but there’s a proportinal on the way) and Stanley, Bureau Grot, Benton Sans, Brown Gothic and propably many others I’ve forgotten. There are also more polished monoline (neo-)grotesques to consider, the genre of Helvetica: Akkurat, Neutral, Aktiv Grotesk and to some degree my own unpublished Aften (it’s a little bit of both).
