Arriving on the Intarwebz in the fall of 2009, Tungsten is described by it’s New York-based creators “ Hoefler & Frere-Jones •” as a “compact and sporty sans serif that’s disarming instead of pushy “ not just loud, but persuasive.•
Tungsten resides in a genre of typeface, colorfully coined ‘Modern Gaspipe’ “ owing to it•s use of long straight lines and curves that, when brought together in a glyph, loosely resemble plumbing.
OpenType versions of Tungsten contain H&FJ’s Latin-X® character set. This means that the font can be applied to copy in over 100 languages throughout the world.
