Background

Paperback is a text face created by John Downer in 2005. The intent was to preserve the hot-metal typeset quality of paperback books in the age of digital printing. Unlike modern “one size fits all” type, Paperback comes in 6 separate master designs optimized for specific sizes. Downer considers Paperback a reflection of his own idiosyncratic approach rather than an effort to mimic specific historical type styles.
