Background
Conceived around the same time as Futura, Nobel lacks its strict adherence to geometric forms (perhaps a consequence of de Roos’ training in the Arts and Crafts movement). As a result, Nobel avoids many other early geometric sans’ sense of sterility.
Tobias Frere-Jones, who began to revive the typeface for Font Bureau in 1993, described it as “Futura cooked in dirty pots and pans.”
Also in 1993 Andrea Fuchs and Fred Smeijers in the Netherlands finished their revival of Nobel and published the family with DTL Dutch Type Founders.
