Background
Grant Avenue is inspired by the monumental lettering in San Francisco from the early 20th century. After most of the city with destroyed by earthquake and then fire in 1906, the city was rapidly rebuilt. Because so much was constructed so quickly in this era, the inscriptions on many buildings share the definitive character from this time. Grant Avenue takes the essence of these inscriptions and brings them together as an OpenType family.
