Background
A longtime font favorite of his, Michael felt that a set of lowercase characters would make Bank Gothic a more universally useful font. He set out on this ambitious task always mindful of the huge presence of its original designer, Morris Fuller Benton, hoping that whatever he did would live up to the high standards of this former giant of the font world.
Michael recreated Bank Gothic (renaming it “DeLuxe Gothic”, the name Intertype had used for Bank Gothic) in two widths: Regular and Condensed. He also decided to keep the original shortcaps for those who’d want to keep Bank Gothic’s classic look, providing the option of setting text in all caps, caps and shortcaps, or in caps and lowercase.
