Background

Amondó Szegi (1964) was born in the small town of Szentes, Hungary. In the 1980’s, he was forced to earn a living as a worker in reaction to his politically charged mail-art projects and performances. His first exhibitions were organized secretly in private flats and galleries in the region. Later, his works were presented in Bologna, Wien, Hague and Siena.

In 1993, he took a job at a newspaper in Szeged where he fell in love with typography and decided to make this passion a career. A self-taught type designer, he honed his skills while working for various studios and established Fontana Type Foundry with Gábor Kóthay in 1999.

His typefaces are internationally known and represented by IHOF, T-26, and The TypeTrust. He contributed to FONTAID II benefitting the victims of 9/11 in New York. He also co-founded the Hungarian Type Society in 2004. Amondó currently lives and works in Budapest as a typographer and graphic designer.
