Type News: Hairline
It’s a light week, but there’s still plenty to take in. Welcome to this week’s Type News:

Andron MC isn’t Leipzig-based Andreas Stötzner’s rapper pseudonym. The “MC” stands for “middlecase” — a fine-tuned set of glyphs that sit comfortably between the uppercase and lowercase of his classically Roman (and increasingly voluminous) Andron family. Capital, uncial, and medieval case combinations support full Latin, Greek, Coptic, and Gothic language ranges.

Schizotype’s lively Pastiche Brush takes it’s inspiration from hand-rendered film titles produced by designer Wayne Fitzgerald in the late 1950s. Dave Rowland has applied his OpenType tricks with care and precision, providing up to three variations for each letter in the face. The contextual alternates automatically cycle the glyphs in a “pseudo-random manner” — adding a realistic, loose-lettered kick to the baseline.

A future-flavoured hybrid combining “biomorphic,” minimalist, and humanist elements. That’s a very precise way to describe Biome — Carl Crossgrove’s sans “hyperfamily.” From the capillary-like extra light to the gravitational pull of the ultra bold, Biome’s seven, display-savvy weights are supplied in three widths — 42 styles in all. It’s like organic architecture meeting up with experimental soft-serve … and then having lots to talk about.
